I’ll Have Mine on the Rocks!
Tonight I was treated to one of the dishes I find most delightful if only for it’s quirkiness. It’s a scrambled egg dish cooked at the table by pouring the beaten eggs over oven-heated rocks. I’ve had this dish presented to me twice now. Once before in Henan province near Zhengzhou and now in Shandong province near Linyi. Those are both not particularly touristy places and certainly the restaurants where I encountered this weren’t geared for tourists so I think it’s safe to assume that it’s not one of those dishes designed just to wow tourists. No one at the table was able to tell me much about the dish such as why it evolved, what region of China (Assuming it’s originally Chinese at all) or anything more than just the name. The name which translated means ‘Egg Love Rocks’ or ‘Egg Meets Rocks’. I suspect there are chi reasons behind it’s origin but that’s just a wild guess. An internet search came up with surprisingly absolutely nothing! If any readers happen to know any more about this dish I’d love to know and share!
