Color! – Blue and Yellow
Blue and Yellow
by DeWitt Kendall
Need more evidence that there’s life beyond basic white?!
Maybe you need to see that color doesn’t need to mean going as everyday as Fiesta ware? There are lots of ways to introduce color in ways that make for some very special table experiences.
The vibrant blue of this hand-printed Indian tablecloth combined with the saffron yellow plates brought created an island of color in the room that was both shimmering and relaxed.
Something I like to do in dark rooms is cluster lots of low candles in the center behind the glassware to refract and amplfiy light outward onto the plates and the guests so that they glow by association. The white peonies (with the right yellow centers of course) also reflect light outward as well as pick up the white floral motif from the fabric. (OK, Who brought the beer bottle to the table! Rick!!!!)
The natural soft yellow tone of polenta continued the yellow through into the meal.
